Why Move To These Cities From Illinois

Moving

Every year, Allied Van Lines studies the migration patterns of Americans to determine which states have the highest outbound and inbound residents. In 2021, Allied found that a high volume of Illinois residents was moving away, the most preferred locations being Phoenix, AZ; Dallas, TX, Los Angeles, CA; Denver, CO; and Atlanta, GA. Many of these residents stated that the reason they left was because of high property taxes in Illinois, which are double the national average. This high rate of property taxes has caused an increase in housing prices in the state, which is another reason so many residents moved away in 2021. Additionally, residents moved in search of job opportunities because Illinois’ manufacturing industry was heavily affected by the pandemic.

Residents also moved to live in states where the climate is much warmer, due to Illinois having low average temperatures during the winter. Many residents have moved to Phoenix, AZ, where there is warmer weather and a booming job market. The cost of living is almost 3% lower in Arizona than in Illinois, with the costs of goods and services also being cheaper. They also have affordable taxes that range based on the resident’s income, as well as an affordable housing market.

Dallas, TX, is another prime location for Illinois residents, where the cost of living is 5% lower than in Illinois. The average housing prices are also lower by over 6%, which is beneficial for adults looking for job opportunities in the city. The thriving job market, low cost of living, and employment opportunities give residents increased purchasing power. Although the cost of living is higher in places like Los Angeles, CA, and Denver, CO, the job market has opened many opportunities for Illinois residents who have moved there.
