A couple of decades ago, broadcasting meant spending a huge amount of money to secure airing time, rent equipment and facilities, and hire bankable talents just to end up being crushed by media giants. Fast forward to today, everybody can broadcast at any time, using basic equipment, and have the chance to be seen and interact with people all over the world at no cost.

Accessibility of video streaming has leveled the playing field – even traditional media is trying to catch up with native streamers since media consumers have also shifted their viewing habits.  With the continuous growth of live streaming as an entertainment medium, a career as a live streamer has become a real possibility for many young adults.

In fact, the top streamers are earning as much or more than some Hollywood actors or pop singers. In 2021, YouTuber MrBeast earned an estimated $54 Million which matched Forbes’ top 54th earning celebrity of 2021, Vin Diesel who was the lead of F9 or Fast & Furious 9.

But attaining the A-list status of the likes of PewDiepIe, Pokimane, and Mr. Beast isn’t as easy as they seem to be. While streaming requires less effort than traditional broadcasting, it still involves a lot of work for those who are operating alone or with a small team. From researching what content will likely be a hit to their viewers, consistently streaming on the same schedule as a regular TV show even if they are sick, and planning how to monetize the stream and their brand – streaming can’t be considered as a side job anymore with its demands if one wants to be truly successful. Commitment and dedication separate the true streamers from hobbyists.

At Flux Panda, we were curious to find out how the most popular streamers achieved their status. Many have given interviews about their journey from being hobbyists into full-fledged streamers so we decided to compile the common denominator among them and present it in this infographic.
