UninstallNever is a new jailbreak tweak for iOS 7 & iOS 8 that prevents and disables app uninstalls without requiring system PIN code.
iOS comes with a built-in feature to ensure the prevention of app uninstallation from Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps. You can also prevent app installation from same menu. However, this method requires the knowledge of the device’s PIN code (if one is set, of course) to work.
Difference between UninstallNever & Built-in Restrictions Feature
UninstallNever is a jailbreak tweak that offers the exact same functionality: you can disable app uninstallation. This, however, does not require you to know the device’s PIN code to work. There may indeed be potentially malicious use cases for this, but how you use this tweak is really up to the reader.
One example is that of handing over an pre-configured iOS device without a PIN code to your little child. Now, they do know how they can lift the Deleting Apps restriction since they also know your PIN code. UninstallNever ensures they cannot lift the restriction (unless they know what Cydia is and how to uninstall apps from it).
Once you download and install UninstallNever, you can no longer uninstall apps from the ‘wiggle mode’ that is initiated any time you tap and hold an app icon. It does this by removing the ‘X’ button in the top left corner of app icons.
There really are no screenshots for this tweak. For tradition’s sake, we have used a simple photo of my second home screen page (not in wiggly mode) – that’s exactly how it will look like when UninstallNever is installed.
As UninstallNever is a jailbreak tweak, you will need to jailbreak your iOS device. UninstallNever works on both iOS 7 and iOS 8, so the majority of jailbreak enthusiasts are covered.
UninstallNever is available as a free download from Cydia under the BigBoss repo.
