Cyberbullying and online harassment have become two of the biggest problems that social media platforms face today. Although social media platforms are trying to find a solution to the problem there hasn’t been much progress in dealing with the situation. While there are sites like owlead which is basically a bot, there are alternatives.
New Tools To Address The Problem
Instagram Facebook, Snapchat, and other social media platforms have launched new tools to deal with the problem. Now, Twitter has joined this trend. The social media platform will launch a new tool to fight against online harassment.
Twitter Received Criticism
In the past, Twitter has failed to deal with the situation. One of the main reasons for the filter is online harassment. Users often reported racist, neo-Nazi, misogynist tweets, and trolls.
Moreover, Twitter has received criticism for its laid-back policies from different companies. Recently, BuzzFeed released a report in which it criticized the company for its slack reactions toward harassment on the platform. Twitter, however, responded to the report by saying that they were unfair. Furthermore, the company also mentioned that it was trying to make the platform safer for users. However, in 2015, Twitter’s ex-CEO Dick Costolo, said that he is ashamed of the way Twitter deals with online harassment. He said, “We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform.”
Twitter’s New Tool To Fight Online Harassment
Now, Twitter has launched a new tool to fight against the problem. This new tool is a filter that will allow users to block unwanted notifications. The social media platform is using a new algorithm to detect “low quality” tweets. This will allow users to block unwanted notifications. These include tweets that seem auto-generated or scripted. The platform will evaluate low-quality tweets by looking at the account and its behavior. Moreover, Twitter now also allows users to receive tweets from only people they follow.
Earlier, this service was only available to verified accounts. Verified accounts are just like official pages on Facebook. They usually belong to celebrities, actors and famous people.
