The UK is an island so you’re never too far away from some spectacular coastlines. There are plenty of seaside towns to visit if you fancy getting some ocean air. Harbours are a great way to embrace the outdoors and see some of the best British coasts out there. Where should you start?

Portsmouth Harbour, Hampshire

Portsmouth hosts a terrific amount of sightseeing opportunities. From its beautiful beaches to the bustle of Gunwharf Quays district. It’s one of those places which truly has something for everyone. The harbour is a perfect example of historic charm and modern chic coming together. Whether you want to embrace the traditional seaside and stroll along the pier with fish and chips or board a hovercraft to explore nearby sights – you won’t be short of things to do. Hopping on the train to Portsmouth Harbour couldn’t be easier, be sure to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Whitby, Yorkshire

Whitby Harbour is pretty special. Did you know it’s one of the few places in the UK where you can watch the sun rise and set over the sea? It’s well worth a visit any time of year. After wandering along cosy, cobbled, streets you’ll be greeted by a postcard-worthy view. The town has a quirky feel, and this is reflected in its harbour From the working ships to the dramatic tall sailboats – the past and present melt together to create a lovely ambiance.

Clovelly, North Devon

Clovelly Harbour has been privately owned since 1738, and this has helped maintain its original atmosphere. It is unbelievably scenic there. It is free from traffic, tourists, and trash. Walk down a steep path, past flower-covered cottages, and take in the beauty of the harbour for yourself. It won’t take you long to see why it inspired famous artists and authors alike.

Crail, Fife

You can trace the history of Crail right back to medieval times. It was once the largest marketplace in Europe. To this day you can still find seasonal fishing boats bobbing on the waters. When you visit Crail you have to try the local cuisine. Crail crab and lobster are caught locally. You won’t struggle to find a restaurant offering plenty of delicious, fresh, seafood.
