Spice up Your Page with the Right Facebook Cover Photo

Be it a business page or personal, the right cover photo can determine how quickly people will judge your page within seconds.

Facebook rolled out the “Timeline” view back in 2011, and with it came cover photos. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a photo for the “cover” of your book — your “Face” book, that is.

Your cover photo should encompass you — what you’re about. What you like. What you love. What you do. It can be hard to choose just the right one. So how do you?

All About Facebook

Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg and launched in February of 2004. Originally only available to college students, Facebook has become the largest social media site in the world. It eclipsed MySpace (that social media giant was born in 2003 and sputtered out around 2008) and continues to grow, adding additional features as it does.

The first huge overhaul to the website occurred in 2011 when Facebook switched to Timeline. Facebook has apps across all mobile platforms, in addition to a separate Facebook Messenger app, and is currently promoting a video calling device called Portal.

The social media platform allows users to share content — from photos and videos to answer the question “What’s on your mind?” Of course, when sharing these photos and stories about our lives, we have to be careful as the internet can be unsafe at times.

And it’s not just people on Facebook, either. Businesses are using Facebook to bring their thoughts, ideas, products, and advertisements directly to the people. Businesses can pay for sponsored ad space, which guarantees their reach to a certain amount of people depending upon how much they’re willing to pay.

Why Choosing the Right Facebook Cover Photo Matters

Your cover photo is the first thing someone sees when they go to your Facebook page. Even though we say “don’t judge a book by its cover,” it’s hard not to when that’s your first impression.

If you’re running a business page, a “bad” photo for your cover photo just won’t do. If you’re a professional whose clients might look you up, the wrong cover photo could cost you in the long run. First impressions are everything.

Facebook Cover Photo Options

For the average Facebook user, your cover photo could be anything. It could be a selfie, a photo of your dog, your family, your sailboat, a beautiful sunset. Whatever you can imagine.

For a business, it might be more prudent to have something that has to do with whatever product or service you’re offering. A housekeeping service probably shouldn’t have a selfie for a cover photo.

If you’re not sure what to choose, Adobe actually offers free templates for Facebook cover photos that look great and could work for both business and personal pages.

Keep Scrolling

Your Facebook cover photo matters because it’s the first thing Facebook users see when they go to your Facebook page! It sets the tone for what they see when they scroll your timeline.

Now that you know how to choose the best cover photo, maybe it’s time to research the best laptop to keep you in business? Check out our tips for finding the best laptop for you here.
