While facing this error when you open the application an icon will appear in the dock for a few seconds and then disappear instantaneously. The reason behind Error 173 is a certificate issue caused by Apple which expired a few days ago. After a few crashes, the application will display a message that has ”????” on it with the Apple store icon on the left side. This icon shows that the problem is due to an expired certificate.
You can solve Error 173 yourself by following the simple steps below.
Step 1: If any of your Mac Store applications is opened, quit the application.
Step 2: Go to “Menu”.
Step 3: From “Menu” choose “Apple store”.
Step 4: Now, click on the “Updates” tab.
Step 5: If all of your applications are not opening successfully then click on “Update All” . (If you are facing trouble while opening only a few applications you can select only those apps and update them.)
Step 6: Wait for these updates to be installed.
Step 7: You can now re-launch these applications. They will open without showing the Error 173 notification .
If you still face Error 173 while launching your applications, you will have to uninstall the application and download it again from the Mac App store.
This may cause an overhead for the users. On the positive side keeping your applications updated helps you in maintaining your system performance and keeps you updated with security updates to protect your device from potential viruses.
If your applications are not launching at all or if they instantly crash you should update all you Mac store apps from the Apple Store.
