By default, the iOS 8 predictive keyboard shows up to three words as suggestions / predictions. There’s a way to see more words with a simple third-party tweak.
I was really looking forward to third-party keyboards on iOS 8, but alas the experience hasn’t been so good so far. Part of it is due to the rushed release of iOS 8, part of it is due to developers’ inexperience with the iOS 8 API, but most of it is because I have an outdated iPhone – the iPhone 4S.
SwiftKey looked like the best option. I used it for a few weeks, but it was too stuttery, and it simply took way too long to get ready to take input. The 4-5 seconds it takes for it to load up negates any time I save while actually typing using Flow typing method.
So yes, I am back to the stock iOS 8 predictive keyboard for now until I upgrade my iPhone. The word predictions offered by iOS 8’s predictive keyboard are far poorer than SwiftKey, but thankfully there’s a way to perhaps slightly improve these predictions: increase the number of word predictions shown at any single time.
The solution is MorePredict, a jailbreak tweak for iOS 8 predictive keyboard which allows you to increase the number of word predictions displayed at a time. You can customize the number of word predictions from Settings > MorePredict. Four or five sounds like a good number of predictions; the latter for the larger, wider screens of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Whether this genuinely improves typing experience, we will only know with testing over time. For now, if you are interested in more predictions in iOS 8 predictive keyboard, you can download MorePredict for free from Cydia. Do let us know what you think of it!
