According to 9-5 Mac, the iPad Pro will be sold online and at the Apple Stores on November 11th. The Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard will also be available on Wednesday November 11th. Adobe claims the new iPad Pro will have 4 gigs of Ram to go along with the A9 chip. Curiously, there is currently no mention of RAM in the Apple specs so I’m sure we’ll find out shortly after it ships when iFixit or others tear it down.
I need a new laptop. My 2006 Macbook Pro is just too long in the tooth to be useful any longer. I can’t run anything new and can’t upgrade to the latest OS so I will be replacing it. I have been struggling with the decision to go with a Macbook Pro or an iPad Pro.
I will not be spending $2000 for a laptop so a maxed out Macbook Pro is off the table. The 128 gig iPad Pro with Cellular and Wireless is $1079, with the keyboard and pencil we’re looking at about $1350, which is close to what a low-end Macbook Pro would cost. I worked it out that over 90% of what I do can be done on the iPad utilizing iCloud and a select group of apps. I just need to locate an iPad app that will allow me to re-save images at a smaller size for my web work. There are a lot of image editors out there, but I have not found one that allows you to “Save For Web”. Give me a shout if you know of one.
I really like the versatility of the iPad Pro so I’m leaning its way, but I will be test driving it before making a final decision. What I really want to see is a Mac hybrid with a detachable screen running Mac OS X, but I don’t see one coming anytime soon and my need for a portable just can’t wait much longer.
