There has been a lot of anticipation around the app that will bring the full Instagram experience to Windows 10 and Tablets. This was originally announced 6 months back at Build 2016 in San Francisco. Well, the wait is over. The much awaited Instagram app is now here.
You can now do all sorts of things that are not possible on the Instagram website. Some of the new features include:
- Live Tiles (Lets you see new photos and notifications from the home screen)
- Stories can now be viewed
- Instagram Direct (Exchange threaded messages and share posts)
- Robust Search, Explore and Feed
The fact that you can now not only post but edit photos is very interesting because that is not possible if you visit Instagram.com. However, now you can have these features on PCs and tablets with functional touch screens. There are some not-so-likeable features, though. The app isn’t well designed for the wider screens. Wasted space can be seen in this screenshot.
However, you would really love it if you have a tablet and you want to use this app on it.

Another important announcement from the Build 2016 at San Francisco came from Microsoft who announced Facebook will be releasing universal apps for three of the most used platforms for socializing nowadays i.e Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook. As a universal app, Facebook only has to build one version for each app and they’ll adapt to Windows 10 devices, be it PC, tablet or smartphone.
This would definitely benefit the Window’s 10 Mobile’s ecosystem. Currently, the Instagram app for Windows phones isn’t doing that well because of no video compatibility.
