Tattoos have gained tremendous popularity, especially in the past couple of years. From styling to an emblem, people get tattoos for countless reasons. One of the biggest reasons for this popularity is the rise in temporary tattoos for adults and kids. As the name suggests, temporary tattoos are carved with removable ink. These are painless and highly safe, even for kids. The no-permanency nature of these tattoos encourages several people to get one for occasions and adds a more youthful and bold vibe to your overall look.

While many people embrace temporary tattoos, others are apprehensive about them, especially about their removal. If you are among the latter, here is a guide for the safe and smooth removal of temporary tattoos without harming your skin.

Should I wait for it to come off on its own?

Yes, you must give some time to these tattoos to fade off. After all, these are called temporary for a reason. However, these tattoos can take a weak or so before peeling off and when they do, they come off in bits. This can make your skin look a bit messy. If you want to remove them and get clear skin at once or you are feeling some pinching and irritation, you should remove them explicitly.

Methods to remove the tattoo

As mentioned above, you may want to explicitly remove your temporary tattoo for many reasons. Simply washing it with soap may not give the desired result and rubbing hard can cause skin irritation. Here are some safe methods to remove the tattoo while preventing any harm to your skin.

Removing with an exfoliating scrub

Exfoliating scrubs are known to remove the dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin and stimulate the growth of new ones. While doing so, these can effectively break off the tattoo and encourage rejuvenation in that area. You can use a scrub available in the market or make one at home using ingredients from your kitchen. Mixing brown sugar, coffee granules, and ground oatmeal with olive or coconut oil is a wonderful scrub that clears your skin and makes it soft and supple.

Using oil-based removers

Oil-based solutions are being used as skin cleansers and make-up removers for many years. These can also be used to remove tattoos. These solutions help clear your skin without stripping the natural oil contained in the skin and are the most soothing method to remove tattoos. You can get some over-the-counter solutions or try something DIY using baby oil, olive oil, or coconut oil. You should gently rub the swab dipped in these oils in a circular motion until the pigment flakes off.

Trying chemical removers

If the above methods do not do the trick, you can also use some chemical-based solutions that can fade away the color of the tattoo by breaking the pigment. Products such as hand sanitizers, nail polish removers, and alcohol, etc are generally not harmful to the skin and effectively deep clean it. However, you should still ensure that you thoroughly wash off these solutions from the skin once you are done removing the tattoo. Do not forget to moisturize your skin with some oil or quality moisturizer after removing the tattoos to soothe it and keep it soft and irritation-free.
