Google has finally introduced video messaging option in the Hangouts app for Android. This feature was long overdue on Android. Hangout users on iOS have been enjoying the option for more than two years. The feature was introduced on iOS in February 2014.
This is not the first time that Google has introduced a feature on iOS before releasing it on Android. Google introduced voice messaging feature on iOS Hangout two years before the introducing it on the Android version. This, however, is unusual for Google, since the company usually introduces features on Android apps before iOS.
We are still unclear about the reason behind the introduction of the Hangouts features on the iOS platform before Android. However, it is great to see the option finally available on the Android version of the app.
To enjoy sending video messages, you will have to download Hangouts v11 . The update is still not available on Play Store. If you don’t want to wait for the official release, you can download the official APK from google.
Once you have downloaded the official APK you can enjoy sending video messages to your friends from your Android device. Sending a video message is pretty simple. All you have to do is tap on the video camera icon on the bottom of the bar, record your message and then simply send it.
We should, however, point out that this feature may not be available to everyone through APK. According to 9to5google.com they were unable to use the feature after APK download. In case it doesn’t work out for you, wait for the official release.
As a part of this update, users will not be able to merge conversations. According to Google “Merged conversations used to let you see your Hangouts messages and text messages in the same conversation. We have decided to remove it because it caused user confusion and had low usage.”
