Public Transit
Google Maps is a trusted application most of us have on our phones. It has really made going to places much simpler. The latest update makes things even simpler as Google Maps gives you live guidance and interactive real-time notifications during your journey.
Real-time Updates
These real-time updates on your public transit journey will make it easier to go to new places where you have never gone before or in the areas which you find confusing. It works the same way as it currently does. You can search in advance for transit directions in Google Maps, but now you’ll have the option to start the journey and then get live updates as you walk or ride on your local buses and trains.
While Google Maps always did a good job of giving you detailed transit directions, the process generally involved keeping track of your own progress along the route. With this update, transit notifications become a bit more like using Maps for walking, biking, and driving.
“Just Hop On The Bus Gus”
Google Maps technology makes it possible for show map to prompt you to get off the bus or the train at the next stop when you are close to your destination. This will ensure that you don’t forget to get off on your stop in an unfamiliar place or have something occupying your mind and you lose track of time.
The new feature might not be as useful for you if you are commuting within your own city and know the routes pretty well. But, it will be pretty handy if you are traveling to a city you have never been to before and are unaware of the routes and the bus timings.
Notifications On Lock Screen
Another new feature is the notifications on the lock screen. These interactive notifications let you scroll through your entire journey. Even though Google is yet to comment on the update, the live update is expected to go up soon and Google has already started rolling them out to some users. This will originally be for android users only but it is expected to be rolled out for iOS in the future as well. Be sure to check it out when you are on your next journey.
