Windows Administrator Password

Forgotten Windows Administrator Password

Couldn’t remember your Windows administrator password after a vacation? Bought an old computer from eBay but it comes with an unknown password? You can secure your 100% data in case you just want to reset Windows 7 password by a simple process. No matter what reasons you forgot your Windows administrator password, you can easily reset a lost Windows administrator password and get back into your computer in minutes.

Method 1: Command Prompt

If you can still log on to your computer with admin rights, you can reset the lost user password from Command Prompt. Follow these steps:

Step 1: To get started, you need to open an elevated Command Prompt.

  • In Windows 7, Vista, and XP, click on the Start button, go to All Programs > Accessories. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  • If you’re running Windows 10/8.1/8, press the WIN+X keys at one time and select “Command Prompt(Admin)”.

Step 2: At the Command Prompt, type the net user command to reset your forgotten password. For example, the username is Angela so you should type “net user Angela *” and press Enter.

Step 3: Once you press Enter, you will be asked to type a new password for the user. Type the new password and later again retype the password to confirm. The password will now be changed.

Method 2: Windows Installation Disk

If you have a Windows installation disk, you can reset your lost Administrator password through a backdoor. This method also works with the latest Windows 10 operating system. Here’s how:

Step 1: Insert the Windows installation disk into the CD/DVD-ROM. Reboot your computer and boot up from the CD. Note that you might have to change the boot order in your BIOS before the system will boot from the CD.

Step 2: When coming to the Windows Setup screen, press SHIFT+F10 keys together. The Command Prompt will open.

Step 3: Now type the following commands and press Enter after each. This will replace utilman.exe with cmd.exe.

move C:\Windows\System32\Utilman.exe C:\

copy C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe C:\Windows\System32\Utilman.exe

Step 4: When it’s done, take out the CD and reboot your computer. When you get to the Windows login screen, click the Ease of Access button at the bottom-right corner. It will open an elevated Command Prompt instead.

Step 5: Type the following command to reset the Administrator password of your user account:

net user Administrator 123

The password can be anything you like. Once you have done this, close the Command Prompt window and type in your new password to log into your account! It works!

Method 3: PCUnlocker

Are you looking for a simple way to reset forgotten Windows passwords? If you’re a computer novice, PCUnlocker should be your good choice. The program allows you to reset, bypass and unlock the Administrator password in Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, and XP. Here’s how:

Step 1: Download the PCUnlocker application (in .zip format) and save it to a folder on your hard drive. Extract the downloaded zip archive and you’ll see a CD image (pcunlocker.iso) in the extracted folder.

Step 2: Now burn the CD image to a blank CD (or USB stick if your computer doesn’t have a CD burner) using the freeware ISO2Disc.

Step 3: Use the CD to boot your locked PC. To do this, you might need to enter BIOS Setup and change the boot order to force the computer to boot from CD first.

Step 4: After successfully booting to the CD, the PCUnlocker program will start, and display all local accounts it found in your Windows installation.

Step 5: Choose the Administrator account and click on the Reset Password button. It will reset/unlock your forgotten password immediately. Reboot the computer without CD, you can then log back on to Windows without a password!
