Cooking With Kitchen Tech

It’s that time of year when many households will be cooking up a storm beginning this week until after the new year.  Some start as early as Halloween with recipes that celebrate the traditional harvest season. Utilizing pumpkin, sweet potatoes, squash and a wide assortment of fresh vegetables. Let’s not forget all the baked goodies as well.  We have survived these many years without cutting edge technology in the kitchen. Today we can choose to utilize kitchen tech to take some of the drudgery and uncertainty out of cooking and add precision and convenience like never before.  Today’s modern refrigerators and ranges are amazing but expensive so we’re going to focus our attention on some of the coolest affordable kitchen tech available.

Kitchen techHiku

All cooking adventures begin with shopping.  Hiku has figured out a way to simplify this process with their kitchen tech product Hiku. The puck-like refrigerator magnet is more than meets the eye, especially when coupled with the Hiku Mobile app.  You can scan barcodes from the items you need to buy or just speak the item into the Hiku . This creates your shopping list in the Hiku mobile app which travels with you in your smartphone to the grocery store.  You can organize or reorder aisles to speed up the shopping process. You can connect to online stores like Walmart Grocery and let the app do the shopping for you. Check out the Hiku website for more info

Kitchen techRange-Smart Thermometer

I’m liking this one.  Imagine placing your thanksgiving turkey, ham or roast in the oven and then just forget about it. Now imagine receiving an alert on your iPhone when the meat has reached the desired temperature. No trips back and forth to the oven to check on its progress.  The Range Smart Thermometer and app will monitor the progress of your main course and alert you on your iPhone when the meat reaches the desired temperature every time. The Range connects and pairs with your phone via a special silicon covered, heat resistant cord. The thermometer transmits an alert when roasting is done. There are two Range Smart Thermometers; Ember and Blue.  Ember is shorter and designed for meat.  Blue is longer and intended for candy making or cheese makes or brewing.

Kitchen techTaylor Digital Measuring Cup and Food Scale

Baking is a science that requires precision for successful results. Enter the Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Food Scale.  A four cup capacity that will measure and weigh ingredients.  Easily converts from volume to liquids. It even has a Tare weight feature where you can measure multiple items at the same time.  Place the first ingredient into the cup and record its weight then and the next food item and it will weight that ingredient and so on. You can remove the cup from the electronics for easy cleaning.  I like to bake and precise measurement is critical for successful baking, so I think this one will be on my list.

Kitchen techCrock-Pot® Smart Slow Cooker

This next level Slow-Cooker is a roomy 6-quart capacity that can accommodate large families or dinner parties. This slow cooker fits roasts and large cuts of meat and the glass lid helps trap in heat and moisture. It cleans up easily.
