For those of you who have not experienced this type of massage before, it can be a life-changing relaxation moment for every one of you. It makes you feel de-puffed, clear, rejuvenated, and skin looks all the clearer post every massage session. In recent times, there has been a lot of attention given to lymphatic drainage massage tools which support the massaging session and maximize the benefits.

Before diving deeper, let us have an in-depth understanding of lymphatic drainage and the lymph system.

What Is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is a network of tissues that is responsible for eliminating toxins, heavy metals, waste, and other unwanted material from the body. The lymphatic system is also responsible for transporting lymph fluid throughout the body.

Lymph fluid contains white blood cells, which fight any external invader like bacteria or virus and prevents the body from catching infections. The lymphatic drainage massage is a technique that was primarily used to treat lymphedema. Lymphedema is the condition where lymph fluid accumulates after lymph nodes are removed during surgery. This usually happens when the lymph nodes have been damaged or removed.

What Is the Lymphatic Drainage Technique?

The lymphatic drainage massage technique resembles the regular massages, however, some people prefer using a tool for the same. The lymphatic drainage massage tool is used by practitioners for enhanced benefits, especially during the sauna sessions using the infrared detox sauna blanket.

To begin with, it is essential to make your body a little greasy for the tool to work effectively on the body. Use a little warm oil to help with slip and guide. You can apply any body oil, serum, or moisturizer for the same, which provides essential greasiness and hydration to the skin.

How Is the Lymphatic Drainage Massage Performed on the Face?

Below mentioned are the steps to carry out facial lymphatic drainage massage on the body, which can be repeated 3-5 times per week. Let us go through a stepwise guide to perform lymphatic drainage massage:

  1. Take a little oil on the palm and start from behind the ear with a flat palm. Use very little pressure to drag the skin down to the clavicle.
  2. Repeat this skin dragging thrice on each side, together or individually on each ear.
  3. Now, make a fist or use the tips of your fingers to start from the jawline up till towards your ear and the base of the jawline.
  4. Repeat this lymph drainage thrice for the above position.
  5. Now, start from the beginning of the brow and nose bridge and work up towards the end of the brows. At the end of the brows, apply gentle pressure for 3-5 seconds using your index and middle fingertips and then release.
  6. Repeat step 5 three times.
  7. Place your hands in the praying positions in the center of the forehand and slowly work for each hand down to the ears. Put gentle pressure down to the ears while performing this.
  8. Repeat the above step 3 to 4 times.

If you are using a facial oil or serum for performing the facial lymphatic massage, it is essential to exfoliate for the skincare products to seep ineffectively. You can use cream or gel-based exfoliant for exfoliating the skin and carry out lymphatic drainage massage afterward. While covering the wider area of the body, individuals prefer to use a lymphatic drainage paddle to work effectively on each end of the body and stimulate the circulation of lymph fluid.
