Blek, An Exciting Minimalistic Game

Blek

Blek

Every once in a while a game with a different, yet amazing, design and/or goal comes along. Everyone falls in love with it the minute they play it. But unfortunately, sometimes those games don’t become popular enough so that others can experience it.  Blek is a perfect example of this. Blek is a beautiful, minimalistic game with a unique source of meaning. It’s elegance and simplicity combine very well to bring an exciting and adventurous experience. It has also won Apple’s Design Award so if you don’t believe me, believe it from the masters of tech design.

The object of the game is to hit all of the colored circles using a curved line that will repeat its movement. This line bounces off the right and left sides of the screen until it reaches its final destination as it disappears to either the top or bottom of the screen. While that may seem easy, levels get more challenging when there are black circles that cannot be touched by the line. If one of these circles disrupt the bouncing line’s path, then the line will die and you will have to start over.

The line follows both the curvature and the speed in which it is created. It also shoots off in the direction that it was last pointed to when drawn. So basically, all you have to do is make a simple gesture, or a more complicated one depending on how you think the level should be played, and attempt to collect all the colored circles and avoid the black ones.

I have been stuck on level 26 for the past couple days and cannot leave my phone alone trying to somehow figure out a way to pass the level. It seems almost impossible to have the line touch all the purple and orange circles without running into a black circle. Although this game seems very simple, it’s complexity unveils as you pass through levels.

Although minimalistic games are not my thing, this game has been a rather interesting and mind-boggling experience. It’s fun to experiment with your approach and be able to become more precise at what you do.

I’ve had a great time experimenting with this game and I hope you do too. Blek is available for $3.99 on the App Store and Google Play. Visit blekgame.com for more information and I can’t wait to see more apps by Kunabi brother.
