The Siri remote has always faced criticism by the users that it was never a good TV remote, let alone suitable for gaming. The last minute decision made by the apple that forced developers to make all those games work on that remote on the Apple TV came as a shock to most people. Fortunately for the users, that decision was reversed at the World Wide Developers Conference this year.

Game Controller Programming Guide

The latest Game Controller Programming Guide issued by the company now states that “When designing a tvOS game, you may require the use of an MFi game controller, but where possible you should also support the Siri Remote.” This means that the developers have been asked to design a game which will no longer be restricted by the limited options available on the Siri remote. iOS and Mac App Store games, on the other hand, cannot require a game controller, but we might see this changing as well in the years to come.

Apple TV has not come anywhere near to its potential as a gaming platform. This was mainly due to the reason that most game developers were not very enthusiastic about making interesting action or adventure games with only a few buttons and a touchpad. They considered it a burden and due to this reason, Apple has never really prospered as a gaming platform. Keeping this in mind, the company has made the necessary change of including a separate remote to overcome the hurdles that hindered their growth in the past.

This decision will attract a lot of developers and it is safe to assume that Apple will be coming up with dozens of exciting games for us in the latest update and it will allow the gamers a much more fulfilling and satisfying experience.
