Use EFS Encryption

Windows XP pro and later version of pro windows use EFS. It is a built-in encryption method to protect the folders and files of the system. To enable it, you need to open advanced settings in the properties tab and select the checkbox. The encryption file system is only supported by NTFS format and uses a combination of symmetric and asymmetric encryption to enhance performance and security.

Share-Level and File-Level Security

If your files are on a shared network, then you must set permissions for the files and folders. You need to control which account can view and edit the data across the network. These settings are useful on a shared network but do not apply on a local computer.

Disk Encryption

You can search for a third-party application that you can use to encrypt a disk. In this way, you can protect the data on the entire disk. Whenever you will write the data on the disk, it will be automatically encrypted. You can also use the applications to encrypt a flash or USB drive.
