3 Tips For Training A New Hire On Your Company’s Hardware And Software

New Hire Training

While hiring new people can be exciting when you think about all that they could offer your team in the future, the first few weeks and months of training can be very hard. Not only can it be challenging for your new hire to learn everything they need to get up to speed, but other people within your company are going to have to take on more of a training role than they might ordinarily, which can result in them being less productive at work.

Luckily, there are some things that you can do to help alleviate both of these problems simultaneously. To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for training a new hire on your company’s hardware and software.

Customize Your Training Based On What They Already Know

Because of the popularity of some business hardware and software, you might get a new hire that has used the same hardware or software that you employ in a previous job. If this is the case, you might be able to just do a quick training on how you use the system a little differently than they might have used the Honeywell handheld computers or whatever other hardware you’re needing to train them on. However, you won’t know if you can gloss over some of this training unless you’re prepared to customize your training.

With this in mind, try to get a handle on what hardware and software your new hires have used in the past so that you only have to spend time training them on things that they really need to learn how to do from scratch.

Create How-To Videos To Help

Even after you’ve put in the time to initially train a new hire on how to use the hardware or software that they’ll need to be using, just one round of training often won’t be sufficient, especially if you’re hitting them with a lot of new information in a very short period of time.

Rather than just expecting people to remember everything, it can be helpful to create some how-to videos that go over how to do certain tasks using the company’s hardware or software. This way, if they have questions or run into issues in the future, they can have the ability to troubleshoot their own problem.

Give Them Time To See It Done In Action

Oftentimes, just being told how to use something won’t help people really instill that knowledge and information into themselves. Rather, they can benefit from actually seeing this work done in action.

Knowing this, it can be helpful to have new hires shadow someone in the company once they’ve had their initial training. This way, they can see how the principles they’ve learned are put into practice in real-time.

If you want your new hires to have an easier time learning how to use the hardware and software that you frequently use as part of your business, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you get better at training for these purposes.
